NEW 14" Hand order Made Ice Spearing Fish Decoy, Traditional Design

This is the biggest decoy that I make, and it is ideal for attracting sturgeon, pike and muskie. This hand carved, one-of-a-kind ice spearing fishing decoy is hand painted in the traditional manner of pairing two highly contrasting colors (white and red), with a third accent color of black pin-striping to make the contrasting colors pop and better attract and lure-in fish predators! This decoy measures 14 inches long by 4 inches wide by 1 1/2 inch high.

Hand made by David Mercer, Sr., from Cheboygan, Michigan, Dave began making ice fishing decoys at the age of 12 years old. Dave learned the art of making the traditionally streamlined-design decoys from his grandfather Ken Elyea who was a well-known commercial fisherman in the Cheboygan and Mackinac area. Due to requests, Dave came up with his Mercer IceTorpedoes line of ice fishing spearing decoys. These highly effective, simple design decoys are handmade with wood bodies, lead weighting, and aluminum, tin, or galvanized metal fins. All order painted decoys are hand painted and unique, and whether painted or unpainted each has Dave's initials monogrammed on the bottom (resembling a small torpedo).

As well as being potentially collectible for both usability and folk art, Mercer IceTorpedoes are very functional for the sport of ice fishing spearing. The tails can be pivoted up and down and the fins and tails can be slightly bent in ways that cause the decoys to circle, dive, spiral, etc., mimicking the natures of the bait fish attractive to pike, walleye, muskie, and sturgeon. Additionally, the decoys are weighted to promote fast or slow swimming action in variable directions, and swift or deliberate maneuvering in the water. All decoys have been ‘swim' tested for balance and maneuverability.
